MT Talent Solutions Inc. is proud to partner with a dedicated client to recruit a Application Engineer/Product Manager for a newly created position. This is a highly technical, customer-facing role suited to an Engineer who has developed deep transformer expertise either within a manufacturer/OEM or through an engineering, integration, or consulting organization supporting transformer projects .
The successful candidate will work closely with customers, internal engineering teams, manufacturing partners, suppliers, and international stakeholders, including partners in China. Fluency in Mandarin and English is required , along with the ability to travel to China approximately 2–3 times per year .

What Will You Do?
- Provide technical engineering expertise for liquid-filled power transformers and related transformer equipment.
- Review customer specifications, tender documents, technical requirements, drawings, calculations, and transformer data sheets.
- Support the engineering and technical development of transformers ranging from 1–200 MVA and up to 230 kV .
- Review transformer designs and provide technical recommendations related to performance, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.
- Evaluate transformer designs, engineering packages, and technical proposals from manufacturers and suppliers.
- Review Bills of Material (BOMs), engineering drawings, technical documentation, and manufacturing documentation.
- Provide technical guidance related to transformer components, materials, insulation systems, cooling systems, bushings, tap changers, accessories, and mechanical construction.
- Support transformer testing, inspection, commissioning, troubleshooting, and failure/root-cause investigations.
- Ensure engineering solutions comply with applicable CSA, IEEE, ANSI and other relevant industry standards .
- Serve as a technical point of contact for international customers and provide engineering support throughout projects.
- Participate in customer meetings, technical reviews, design reviews, and project discussions.
- Translate customer requirements into clear technical specifications and engineering deliverables.
- Travel to China approximately 2–3 times per year to support manufacturing, supplier relationships, factory acceptance testing, design reviews, quality inspections, and customer/project requirements.
- Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure transformer designs can be efficiently and reliably manufactured.
- Provide technical support during transformer fabrication, assembly, testing, and shipment.
- Assist with troubleshooting, non-conformances, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Participate in factory inspections and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
- Review manufacturing and quality documentation and identify potential technical issues before they impact project delivery.
- Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate components, resolve technical issues, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support continuous improvement of transformer designs, engineering processes, and manufacturing practices.
- Participate in design and technical reviews.
- Develop and improve engineering standards, design practices, specifications, and workflows.
What Do You Bring?
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline .
- 7+ years of engineering experience with substantial power transformer expertise.
- Experience working directly with power transformers is essential .
- Experience with a transformer manufacturer/OEM, transformer integrator, engineering consulting organization, utility, or related power equipment environment.
- Strong understanding of transformer design, construction, manufacturing, testing, and application.
- Experience working with international customers, suppliers, or manufacturing partners is highly desirable.
- Understanding of CSA, IEEE, ANSI and other applicable transformer standards is preferred.
- Ability to review and interpret transformer specifications, drawings, calculations, test reports, and technical documentation.
- Expertise in transformer mechanical and/or electrical design principles with a proven ability to produce quality, accurate work in specified timelines.
- Experience with transformer testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, or failure analysis is an asset.
- Experience with 3D CAD, engineering analysis tools, ERP systems, or technical documentation systems.
- Welding knowledge and quality assessment experience are considered an asset.
- Fluent Mandarin and English – both written and verbal.
- Ability and willingness to travel internationally, particularly to China approximately 2–3 times annually .
- Comfortable working across different cultures and time zones.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to customers, suppliers, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders.
